A lesson in capturing the moment.
I’m considering hanging this piece in my living room, That’s how much I like it. But I also kinda hate it, and it’s all because of my jerk of a husband.
He has this new annoying habit. I’ll come in from my travels, and tell him about some great piece of found art I saw. A decayed, graffitied wall, the patina on an old car, a weird reflection of random shadows and shapes. But lately, when I share one of these stories he says, “Sounds amazing. If you’d taken 5 seconds and snapped a photo of it, then I could share in your joy. But since you were too busy….”
I told you — jerk. He calls these conversations teachable moments. I call them his being a d**k. Turns out, we’re both right.
It is annoying, but yesterday when I was walking in from getting the mail, I saw this cool reflection (above) in the rear quarter panel of my car. Then I heard that irritating phrase in my head. I took the 5 seconds to open the camera app on my phone, and snap a couple shots. I love it so much.
His point of course, is that we have the tech to document the discovery. We all carry around these great cameras in our pockets. It requires so little effort, and absolutely no expense to record the image. Maybe 99 times out of a hundred, I’ll decide the picture is worthless and delete it. But every once in a while there’s an image that moves me. Like this one. I love it. He was right. I hate that.
